New York Republican State Committee Chairman Joseph N. Mondello and Upstate Coordinator Henry F. Wojtaszek today announced the 2009 NY Politics Online Seminar, a first-ever conference dedicated to ensuring Republican elected officials and campaigns from around the state are educated and trained in the latest cutting-edge technologies available. The conference will be held on Tuesday, May 19th in Albany.

“This is exactly the kind of training that our elected officials, candidates and local organizations need to effectively communicate with the public. It is the right idea at the right time, and it will make Republicans more effective in making government work for the families and businesses of this state,” said Chairman Mondello.

Event organizer Chairman Wojtaszek said, “Utilizing the latest online technology is critical if the Republican Party is going to turn itself around and start winning races again in New York State. There are new innovations every day that could improve our ability to communicate with the public, optimize our turnout operations on Election Day, and raise money for our candidates, and we need to make sure everyone is utilizing them. We are launching this online seminar to bring our party to the leading edge, unlock the potential of new technology, and win elections.”

In campaigns where huge advertising buys are out of reach, meeting people face to face can be key to victory. Republican Joseph Griffo’s successful campaign this year for state Senate was no different, but Griffo had some technological help from CampaignBase.com, a Syracuse company that produces campaign software.

Travis Glazier, a local campaign operative who has worked on various election efforts in recent years, started the company in December 2005 and Griffo’s campaign was one of its first paying customers.

Griffo, current Oneida County executive, used the service to organize what houses he would visit when out canvassing neighborhoods. The Web-based product allowed the campaign to make fast, mobile decisions on where to door-knock, says Ryan Nobles, adviser to Griffo’s campaign.

Before CampaignBase, voter information would be carried on large spreadsheet files, making it difficult to generate door-knocking lists on the road, Nobles explains. The service also allowed the campaign to search voters by multiple categories and create highly targeted plans.

That knowledge came in particularly handy during the race’s primary, Nobles says.

“We only needed Republicans and only targeted people we knew were going to vote,” he says. “Before this came along, this kind of information was what could separate grassroots candidates from those that are bigger and more well financed.

Using the CampaignBase.com simple content management system (CMS), the staff at the church was able to post up weekly bulletins, communications about parish services, and inform the community about the human services provided. Best of all, CampaignBase.com was able to find a plan that fit the needs of the church, avoiding over-complicated and expensive options.

Phi Kappa Sigma is more than an organization to be a part of during college; it is a valuable learning experience, a life-ling commitment, and philosophy of life. Along with the Phi Kappa Sigma Ritual, our Purpose and Principles state who and what we are as a Fraternity and as members of that Fraternity. All members take an oath to uphold these ideals and it is up to all of us to make sure that we, and those who come after us, learn and understand what it is to be a true “Phi Kap” and “Man of Honor” and incorporate that into our Chapters and into our lives.

Concerned that many children were unable to succeed and flourish because their needs were not being met by their families or by existing agencies in the community, representatives from area groups gathered in the early 1970s to find ways to improve the quality of life for children and their families. A nucleus of the groups then established The Education Committee to address the needs of children in the community. This committee recruited professionals from the health, social services, education and recreation fields to research the services that were being offered to area youngsters. Their combined findings indicated that such services were lacking.

Before they could help these children, this team needed to raise money. To address this vast need, The Consortium Gift Shop was established in downtown Syracuse. Craftspeople wanted an attractive place to consign their creations, and The Consortium required a focal point where information about its concerns for children and methods for meeting their needs could be disseminated to the public. The gift shop opened in 1973 at 123 East Water Street in Hanover Square, one of the oldest retail establishments in the area.

Early in 1975, The Consortium collaborated with the Onondaga County Department of Social Services on the need for preventive services for young children. This collaboration resulted in the Magic Bus that trained childcare providers in their own family daycare homes. Today, this highly effective program continues to give daycare providers the resources they need to keep their skills and licensing current.

The Teen Parents and Babies program, developed in 1987 to aid in the education, health and childcare for an adolescent and her/his baby, continues to help young parents and their children today. Presently the program teaches parents to be their child’s first and best teacher, and lends toys and equipment to families in need.

The Consortium Gift Shop closed in 1996 so that more attention could be given to expanding programs and services for area youngsters.

The 1990s brought additional programs to The Consortium that address clients’ educational, social and economic needs. The Even Start program was developed in 1997 in collaboration with OCM-BOCES to provide families with home-based services targeting improving family literacy, parenting skills and employment opportunities. FamiliesWork ™, our newest program, tailors private and job-site programs with customized themes specific to the needs of working caregivers who are concerned with a wide range of issues.

In March of 2008, the Children’s Consortium moved to a new home. After being in Hanover Square for over 34 years, the agency moved to office space on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse. For the first time in the history of the Children’s Consortium, the location affords the agency the ability to provide services on-site and allows opportunities for program growth.

The Consortium For Children’s Services, serving Central New York for over 30 years, is a non-profit agency with United Way funded programs that provides home- and center-based services that empower caregivers to promote successful emotional, physical, educational and economic outcomes for children and their families.
